Getting Ready

Welcome!  This blog is primarily to keep me focused on what I think will be a very difficult journey.  My family of seven is about to embark on a transition from a primarily junk filled diet to one that is plant based.  Why?  Well, I'm a documentary junkie.  Lately I've been focusing in on the "healthy" documentaries.  I've been very surprised at how many of the documentaries all seem to have the same message...plant based diets will help you to prevent many diseases and in some cases reverse the diseases you have.  I know that in my almost thirty-two years on this planet my diet has been absymal.  I LOVE sugar and have a humongous Diet Mountain Dew addiction.  I crave fast-food.  My mouth waters at the thought of fried food. If I could live on chocolate I would.  It's not been a healthy way of life for me so far.

The worst part is that my children have the same problems with diet that I have.  My seven-year-old hasn't eaten a vegetable that not's a potato in his life.  My four-year-old asks for candy about ten times a day and cries if he doesn't get it, and my three-year-old and I fight over my Diet Mountain Dew all day long.  I can't keep this up.  I can't let them eat like I eat.  So, we are changing it. 

We are going to do it slowly, because I think going cold turkey might kill us. We'll finish up the meat in the freezer.  We'll introduce a few new vegetables and fruit every day. Slowly, but surely we'll work our way to mainly fruits and vegetable with little dairy and meat. Tomorrow may prove to be a VERY hard day.
